Ron Sakamoto

- Inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2014
BIOGRAPHY:
A true entrepreneur, Ron Sakamoto’s almost 50 year concert portfolio bulges with tours and shows across Canada with most of the top country artists in the U.S.; yet one of his greatest achievements is working with Shania Twain’s first show prior to becoming a world superstar. His love for Canadian country artists goes back to the likes of Anne Murray, Myrna Lorrie and Rita MacNeil to name a few.
Ron’s career began as a teenager, owning a booking/management agency along with several clubs. As the bands grew he knew it was time to expand and started ‘Gold & Gold Productions Ltd’. When son, Shawn graduated, majoring in Music Business from Belmont University in Nashville, he returned to Lethbridge and began working alongside Ron.
Ron has been honoured with the Canadian Country Music Association’s Hank Smith Award of Excellence and after receiving the CCMA ‘Talent Buyer or Promoter of the Year’ Award for 17 consecutive years the award was re-named in his honour. Ron has received the CMA International Promoter/Talent Buyer of the Year, IEBA’s International Promoter of the Year Award and most recently has been nominated for the ACM’s Promoter of the Year Award. Ron has served on the Board of Directors for both the CCMA and the CMA in Nashville. He is currently on the Board of Directors for IEBA.
When asked about the many awards and accolades throughout his career, Ron responds, “When you love what you do it’s just a lot of fun. I love what I do, I’m never going to retire until the time comes when it stop being fun, so what more can I ask for.”
