Wes Montgomery will be remembered by many as simply amazing. He began his career in Peace River, AB at CKYL in 1958. Through the 1950’s Wes grew his career and on-air personality in Saskatoon and Lloydminster, eventually landing in Edmonton in 1962 where he left a mark unlike any other broadcaster.

Throughout the 60s and 70s, Wes was the morning man at CHED and enjoyed a 52% share of the audience. Not since, has a morning show held the attention of over half the citizens of the Edmonton market.  Although CHED was a Top 40 radio station, Wes, always a lover of country music would “slip in” songs from country music hit makers of the day. From CHED to K-LITE to CFRN, Wes would eventually find his country music home at CISN FM and then finally at CFCW in October of 1993 where he remained a true listener favourite until his passing in 2005. Always considered a man of the community, Wes donated hundreds of hours at charitable events across Alberta assisting to raise thousands of dollars for local charities.

In addition to his love of music and charity, Wes was a true sports enthusiast reporting on 14 Briers, 5 World Curling Championships, 30 Grey Cups, plus Wes emceed 39 Edmonton Eskimo fundraising dinners, and 30 CFL Coach of the Year dinners. Wes’s memory was honoured in 2005 at the CCMA Awards when he and morning co-host Jackie Rae Greening were named On-Air Personalities of the Year, Major Market.
