Partners of the Hall of Fame

Initially there were two formal recognition programs for Canadian country music legends; a Hall of Fame program (and collection of memorabilia) founded and operated by artist/producer Gary Buck and a Hall of Honour induction program managed by the CCMA. In 1999 these organizations merged their programs to create an annual induction into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. This merged induction process continued up to 2009, when the estate of Gary Buck (who passed away in 2003) was settled and the National Music Centre (NMC) obtained his extensive collection of memorabilia. At that point, the CCMA reverted back to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour name.

In January of 2009, the CCMA signed an agreement with the Merritt Walk of Stars (MWS) to establish a physical exhibit in Merritt BC for the CCMA Hall of Honour program.

In 2011, as part of a historic tri-party (CCMA, NMC, and MWS) memorandum of understanding, this annual recognition induction program, to be managed by the CCMA, was to be known once again as the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. All past Canadian Country Music Hall of Honour and/or Hall of Fame inductees once again were brought together into one program. CCMA now owns, for the first time, the Hall of Fame trademark.

As part of the 2011 tri-party agreement, the CCMA will endorse NMC as the official and exclusive home for receiving all Canadian country music collectibles and artifacts, including but not limited to items related to inductees of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. The NMC is slated for opening in Calgary in early 2016. The CCMA has a presence on the NMC Exhibitions Advisory Committee (Don Green).

In June 2012, a new CCMA and MWS agreement was signed. MWS changed its name to Canadian Country Music Heritage Society (CCMHS). The CCMA has recognized and licensed the CCMHS organization to develop an official Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame exhibit in Merritt, BC, which includes an exclusive display of plaques of the Hall of Fame inductees past, present and future. Through the 2011 tri-party memorandum of understanding, MWS will also exhibit portions of the “Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame Collection”, an extensive collection of Canadian country music memorabilia on a loned, rotating basis from NMC.
